Mercoledì 31 marzo 2021 alle ore 14:15 su Microsoft Teams si svolgerà il Seminario di Cultura Digitale “Per un’ontologia informatica della filosofia alto-medievale. L’approccio metodologico di OPhEMA” che avrà come relatori Gianmarco Bisogno, Raffaella d’Urso, Giuseppe Salerno, Timothy Tambassi (Università di Salerno).
L’incontro è aperto a tutti gli interessati.
Il progetto OPhEMA (Ontology for the Philosophy of Early Middle Age), promosso dal Centro FiTMU e dal Dottorato RAMUS (Università degli Studi di Salerno), mira a stabilire che cosa si intenda per “filosofia nell’Alto Medioevo” attraverso la costruzione di una ontologia informatica che consenta la metadatazione e la semantizzazione della letteratura prodotta in tale periodo storico.
Il nostro intervento, suddiviso in tre parti, ha lo scopo di mostrare le ragioni filosofiche e gli strumenti informatici alla base di tale progetto. Nella prima parte, evidenzieremo come il percorso di ricerca intrapreso possa contribuire a una riflessione sull’idea stessa di filosofia, innestandosi nel dibattito, sviluppatosi a fine Ottocento, tra idealisti e documentalisti. Nella seconda, mostreremo i passi necessari per delineare e progettare una ontologia della filosofia alto-medievale, basata sul principio dell’open science. Nella terza parte, infine, si analizzeranno i risultati attesi, così come i vantaggi e i limiti di tale progetto.
For an IT Ontology of the Philosophy of Early Middle Ages . The Methodological Approach of OPhEMA
The aim of this talk is to present the methodology of the project in Digital Humanities “OPhEMA”, promoted by the University of Salerno. The purpose of the project is to establish what is meant by philosophy in the Early Middle Age, through the analysis of the literature produced between the II and the XII century. The main premise is that, in order to reconstruct any particular meta-philosophical view on the Philosophy of the Early Middle Age [PEMA], it is necessary to consider how the term “philosophia” occurs in the literature.
The idea is that a survey of the occurrences of “philosophia” might help us to define the meaning of philosophy for a single author, in a specific period of time, and then in the whole Early Middle Age.
In order to do this, we plan to develop an IT ontology that might be suitable to grasp the philosophical knowledge contained in the literature of the field. The scope of this tool is to make available ontologically annotated texts for a variety of scientifically relevant uses, going beyond the sole meta-philosophical browsing: for example, the ontology might support the production of digital and critical editions.
The main methodological steps of this project are the following:
- working on a literature review aimed at identifying the occurrences of “philosoph*”, by starting from authors that represent the area of specialization of the research- team’s members;
- creating a shared Google Sheets file, within which the occurrences of “philosoph*”; are systematized by indicating authors, bibliographic data, translations and comments;
- revising the structure of such a systematization so as to verify the functionality of the identified fields;
- combining those data in an IT ontology of the PEMA. This might facilitate processes of browsing and searching texts based on internal philosophical and meta- philosophical contents and knowledge.
