English version

Since the post-war period, human depopulation and the abandonment of agro-silvo-pastoral activities have allowed animal and plant species to reoccupy mountain spaces. Abandonment/resilience/reoccupation characterize the Tuscan mountains and have led to the creation of protected natural areas and the development of conservation policies. However, local communities do not always fully understand conservation actions, leading to debates and conflicts over development and environmental preservation policies.

Studying the Versilia slope of the Apuan Alps, the project aims to support mountain environmental safeguard policies by promoting, within communities, a conscious understanding of the specificities of subsistence activities and the biodiversity of the territory. Through the use of archaeological and ethnographic methodologies, ArchMOSS will analyze the dynamics of cooperation and coexistence between human communities and the environment to estimate their environmental impact and provide a framework of interconnections that have led to the formation of the landscape and knowledge support for planning management strategies.
